Two Hand Mastery

Once octaves, licks, chords and arpeggios are played all over the neck it is easy to see these shapes on the neck before putting a finger on the fretboard. If you can see all the shapes at once then use both hands to get a little crazy and play the guitar with both hands on the fretboard. This will require tapping strength from both hands and some patience. Start by tapping octaves (Ex. 1). Then move to tapping arpeggios (Ex. 2) and later scale licks (Ex. 3).

This technique sounds much like a piano when done correctly and will add a bit of flash to your playing. A tip to help get the best sound out of this technique is to mute the open strings with a hair tie. There are free guitar lessons online Here. Here is a great video showing the details of how to do this technique.
